Ontario educators continue to share their Minecraft learning experiences with varied audiences.

On January 30, 2016, the fourth school library research symposium known as Treasure Mountain Canada was held in Toronto. In previous years, TMC was held in Edmonton (2010), Ottawa (2012), and Victoria(2014). Denise Colby and Diana Maliszewski wrote a paper called “Purposeful Play: Games Based Learning in School Library Learning Commons” and participants at the symposium were able to engage in “table talks” with Diana and others who contributed papers. On February 4, 2016, Denise and Diana hosted a webinar for TVOntario’s Teach Ontario site called “Minecraft in the Classroom: Connecting Creepers to the Curriculum”. There were many questions and these will continue to be answered in the Minds on Minecraft forum on Teach Ontario. The archived video can be found on:

Coming up on February 18, 2016, the Teacher Learning and Leadership Program Sharing the Learning Summit will be held in Mississauga. The following folks will share their Minecraft discoveries:

  • Dustin Carson and his group from the Grand Erie District School Board (“The Building Blocks to Engage and Support All Learners: Minecraft to Discover Inquiry Skills”)
  • Denise Colby and her side of the group from the Toronto District School Board (“Digging into Minecraft with Inquiry”)
  • Mark Hadala and his side of the group from the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board (“Digging into Minecraft with Inquiry”)
